Comparing the 20th century to now there are many hopeful signs. Look at the way people view war. These days many people challenge the need for it, they question why we have to resort to it. In the early twentieth century there was no talk about protecting the environment, yet now everyone is aware of it. Our perceptions are coming closer to reality; humanity is becoming more mature and I am optimistic about the future.

"Oh you're a physicist, that's quite an unusual thing for a woman to do."

Women around the world are marking Ada Lovelace Day - in memory of the 19th Century woman hailed by many as the first computer programmer.

Why do relatively few women work in science and technology 160 years after her death?

Dashrath Manjhi was born into a poor labourer family in Gahlour village near Gaya in Bihar, India. He is also known as Mountain Man.

Dashrath Majhi's wife, Falguni Devi, died due to lack of medical treatment because the nearest town with a doctor was 70 km away from their village.

Hence he carved a 360 feet long, 30 feet high and 25 feet wide passage through Gehlour hills with a hammer, chisel and nails working day and night for 22 years from 1960 to 1982. His feat reduced the distance between Atri...

Is Facebook burnout finally igniting?

A blog I just read got me thinking about the future of Facebook and how the sentiment of its user base is slowly but surely shifting. I lost interest in Facebook long ago: From the filtered flood of dull content to the dated, crappy interface and godawful mobile apps -- not to mention the absurd privacy games the company's constantly playing -- there's just not much that entices me to spend a whole lot of time there anymore. Google+ and Twitter provide far more...

'Tunnel of Love' is a Passageway for Trains and Lovers in Ukraine.

The tunnel was made over many years as the passing train molded the trees' lines. The train turned a luscious piece of woodland into a unique passageway as it traveled back and forth 3 times a day over several years.

In addition to serving as a train route, the tunnel is used by lovers to make a wish – it is said that if they are sincere in their love, their wishes will come true. If you are out and about Ukraine, don't miss this fantastic...

"The Subway"
Zion National Park, Utah - 2011

When one thinks of iconic locations to document in the American Southwest, Zion National Park is usually near the top of the list. With so many amazing geologic formations in such close proximity, it is not surprising that many love to visit this National Park. However not all locations are visible from your car, such as "The Subway" pictured above. Located deep in the back country, the main trail to access the subway not only requires a special permit, ...

Official Red Dwarf X poster
I think it incumbent upon me to point out that the cast of Red Dwarf look older because....... they are older. Craig was 23 when he did the first series in 1988, he's now .... a bit older. Danny is also a bit older but he still wears the same costumes he wore in the 1st series. Kryten has some extra hard drive installations in his mid section but his groinal attachment can still suck the chrome off door handles.

This is disgusting. Zayn had to delete his twitter, you guys have pushed Harry too far. You have already made Niall feel like he isn't good enough. Your calling me and Eleanor fake. You guys seriously take things too far sometimes. You know that. To the point where Zayn had to delete his twitter. This is sickening. I'm very disappointing in some of you. Not all of you. most pf you are decent and great fans. But just because you think people are fake or you hear rumors about them. Doesn't give you...

"Most teenagers play basketball after school. I don't - I do cancer research."

15-year-old Jack Andraka has created a pancreatic cancer test that is 168 times faster than the gold standard - and 1,000 times less expensive.

And he did it by using Google.

Long before I started photographing birds, waterfalls were my passion and this one is my favourite. Albion Falls is located in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in the city of waterfalls. Only an hour away from Niagara Falls the city has over 120 waterfalls within its city limits which are accessible to the public. Photographed this evening with a Canon 5D mkii and 17-40 lens.

Bottomless Pit - Monticello Dam Drain Hole
Glory holes are used for dam's to drain excess water during dry seasons. This is the largest one of them all in the world, it is located in Lake Berryessa. It is used very rarely, but it is quite the sight to see it being put to use.
Located in Napa County, California, USA this glory hole was constructed between 1953 and 1957. The hole diameter is 72ft (22m) wide whilst the critical drop is 280ft (86m).
